About friendship

I saw a movie today: DUE DATE, a comedy with Robert Downey Jr.& Zach Galifianakis, but this post is not about that movie, although it did inspire me to write it. I will like to talk about how Hollywood loves to sell us the idea of how "easy" are friendships and love. In so many movies perfect estrangers get together and after overcoming a couple of difficulties became soul mates either as best friends, lovers or both. Perfect romantic comedies. I say "easy" ironically why?, usually nothing is easy on those movies (easy and simple don't sell tickets), but yes easy, if after 1 week or so of adventures the characters connect for the rest of their lives.

I'm thinking about my friends. Thinking why and how they became my friends. Yes, we have overcome a series of difficulties: long distance, overdoses of alcohol, asshole boyfriends and girlfriends, lack of money for parting, so and so. Isn't because of the overcome of difficulties that we are close to? If my life were a Hollywood movie for sure the difficulties will be something similar to kidnapping or a cross country adventure. More dramatic and easy to get, an idea of why our connection is strong.

Now is when I'm glad, once again, that my life is not a Hollywood script, and my friendships are not based on difficulties, or maybe they are, but it is the power of overcome them and survivor traumas or adventures. I'm glad now that I think again of my friends and know that my relationship with them is based on common interest, intellectual attraction, dark sense of humor, and, why not, chemistry.

My friends and I have history and thank God for it because a simple life has more magic than a Hollywood if you know where to look for it.

I love you all!!

Taza o pocillo

The outdoor magic

I love my beautiful Colombia. I'm 100% proud of said: I'm Colombian and that Colombia is a great country, with lots of faces, both good and bad. All the goods and bads make the country a special place, a place really enjoyable for live, love and play, so don't get me wrong with this but: Live in USA rocks! Yes, I said it: Life in USA Rocks! but not for any of the reasons that a lot of people have the "American Dream", in fact often I realize that life here can be even harder than in Colombia, a "3rd wold country". I'm not saying the USA rocks because of the malls, the clean streets, the feeling of safety, or the Calvin Klein outlets. I'm saying it rocks for how easy it is camping and scape to nature; how easy it is enjoying the outdoor magic! I was a boys scout ( in Colombia it is unisex), so I can say the I knew what camping was, and thanks to my family, I was able to enjoy the countryside often, I even have a funny story about the last ti...

A smoking job!

In 2005 I was hired as a Team Marketing Developer intern for British American Tobacco Colombia. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this company, BAT is the tobacco company of Lucky Strike and Kool, among other brands. For me, as a recent Marketing and Advertising graduate, it was a lifetime opportunity. Finally, after many jobs on restaurants and sales, I had an open door to a multinational corporation that invests millions of pesos (well dollars really) in marketing and advertising worldwide. My job was "simple": I and two others interns (Andres and Mauricio) will be in charge of expanding the product placement and brand visibility, while helping sales rep to increase sales, in specific city areas. The job was lost in PR and cross-sales with bars and restaurant owners. In other words something like "If you buy our products from our sales rep, that new cooler you need it will be on us (with our brand everywhere, though), you win, we win, everyone wins!"....
